On the 24th inst., on account of your wife wanting to acquire an address in this country, you and your wife applied at this office. You stated, that your wife’s sole income would consist of maintenance from you, that the acquisition of an address in this country was brought about by your wife’s wish to establish a proper home, and that she in spite of British citizenship wished to establish that home in Denmark, that you and your wife’s marriage remain, and that you in consideration of your work continue to keep your address in Honduras.

At the same time you enquired about your wife’s liability to pay tax to Denmark, and you were informed, that your wife was liable to pay tax in accordance with P.A.Y.E. Tax-Law paragraph 1, from the day she takes up residence, but that the maintenance received from you is not to be counted to her taxable income.

After your enquiry at the office it has become known, that a decision has been made by the State Assessment Directorate, after which a here living wife, of a husband living abroad without being liable to pay tax to this country, is not taxable of housekeeping money and other maintenance payments, when the married couple cannot be considered to live permanent separated.

Because of an unquestioning and absolute belief in the integrity of the Danish Authorities, it was at this time I made my life’s greatest mistake, a mistake so big that in 1985 it ended up ruining my wife’s and my own existence. It put a full stop to my successful career, stamped me as a criminal and destroyed my health, plus reduced me to bankruptcy with the final result of costing me my marriage.
